Lending your shoulders

The first time I lent my shoulders was for carrying a palaquin with a Saibaba photo in a temple ritual and it was a ecstatic feel of showcasing our devotion for our beloved God.

Shoulders act as a unique idiom when it comes to signifying who is allowed to rest upon the same. Shoulders are not only a piece of muscle but a support system in place. And we try to evaluate the character of person based on how he allows the shoulders to be applied for.

It has also become a trend wherein people don't voice their opinion publicly but allow their shoulders to be used by vested interests in private with a belief that it might skip the accountability on their part. Whether in private or in public every act has its own colour and will surely play a vital role when it comes to determining after effects of such acts.

Worst way of giving a role for your shoulders is to allow someone to shoot at someone using the your shoulders. You are not only demeaning the value of your shoulder but you are giving an escape route to the person who is coward enough to claim ownership of his act which he knows has no status quo from ethics point of view.

Sabke sab hamare bande hain

Its always expected that an organization works in unison, a great sense of co-ordination exists between various stakeholders. This is possible only where there is a clear layout of goals, principles, rules and regulations laid out describing the role of each and every performer.

In a private organization, leaders practice we command you follow policy. Yes, they do listen subordinates but they listen when they are convinced that listening adds their profit performance. At the brink of the moment they can relieve subordinate from existing responsibility to a new domain. Subordinate is expected to pickup from where he has dropped. In short a thought exists in the leadership that every component can be defined as per their convenience exclusively. Leaders share this exclusiveness with their manager who are entrusted with powers to regulate, hire and fire their subordinates.

But when it comes to government organization, its effective operation and strength lies in amount of liberty to perform bestowed upon the different departments delivering their own distinct service. Each section is respected for its independent observation and functioning. Government miserably fails when it began to thinks on lines of private organization and resorts to convert the pillars into a mere propagandist script parroting in order to put forth a rosy picture.

The performance indicator of private entity is all about profits and business expansion strategy. Social service is an optional part for them. When it comes to government organization they have huge responsibility of guaranteeing the welfare of the people who are within their ambit in all the spheres.

Distant yet achievable dream

A new child is born and the family is happy. The hospital charges have been covered under the universal healthcare scheme. Government official visits the hospital and issues the birth certificate. Government opens a bank account and deposits a lump-sum amount in the name of baby so that parents/ guardian can buy  good nutritious food, medicines and for other vital needs till the baby transforms into a valuable citizen and starts earning for themselves.

Kid attains the age of 4 years and receives joining letter to join the allotted school from the education department. Yes, parents need not pay for education. Kid studies and graduates with passing colors. He/She registers in the employment bureau and receives a call letter for a job. He/She passes the interview and receives appointment letter. He/She is covered under dignity of labor scheme to protect him/her from unforeseen aggression of the company. A portion of his/her salary is deducted towards universal health care scheme, children development fund, education fund and old age pension scheme.

He/She earns for food, clothing and shelter and saves some amount for the clothing and other needs of their kids. They also take care of old age parents using old age pension scheme.

The above is typical lifestyle of a salaried class person, of-course it can also include small and medium scale business men too.

Does this mean all schools and hospitals need to be nationalized? Absolutely not. Government can choose the good performing private schools and hospitals with reasonable cost of operation and fund their operation cost so that the management can pass over the benefits to their consumers.

Let the people who can afford for private education and healthcare do it so at their own risk. But affordable education and healthcare for every strata of society should be basic right of the every citizen.

The day when the quality of output from these public funded service related sectors exceeds to that of privately managed ones, we can surely feel proud of ourselves as a nation. Till then, we can feel happy to have won cricket world cups, number of Indian CEOs working for American MNC's, multi-crore collection w.r.t. cinemas from the favorite actor/ actress.
